Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a mid-sized luxury four-wheel drive SUV in the Toyota Land Cruiser line. Even though, Toyota makes a distinction between Land cruiser Prado and higher-end Land cruiser, both series are called Land Cruiser in Europe. In the US and Canada, Prado is marketed as the Lexus GX 470 and Toyota 4Runner sport utility vehicles (SUVs), with nearly identical body panels and a V8 engine. The current Prado is based on Toyota's J12 platform. Previous models were based on the J9 and J7 platforms. All models designated Prado feature front independent suspension, ladder frame, and a two-speed transfer case. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is available in GX, GXL and VX spec versions, with either short or long wheel base. We offer only the GX and the VX from our Thailand office. The GX is the entry level model, while the VX is the more luxurious version. In most markets it is available with either a 4.0 L petrol V6 and a 3.0 L Diesel engine but we only offer 3.0 diesel Prado.

 1 KZ-TE Engine

Prado VX comes equipped with 1KZ-TE engine.

The 1KZ-TE is a 3.0 L (2982 cc), 4 cylinders, SOHC, 2 valves per cylinder turbo diesel engine. Bore is 96 mm and stroke is 103 mm, with a compression ratio of 21.2:1. Maximum output is 130 hp (97 kW) @ 3600 rpm with maximum torque of 29.3 kgf·m (287 N·m) @ 2000 rpm. Redline is 4400 rpm. First produced in 1993, it is still used in new model vehicles today. 1KZ-TE also adopt the electronically controlled fuel injection, ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System - intelligent) technology which is similar in basic construction to a modern gasoline injector, although utilizing considerably higher injection pressures, making it a very efficient engine.

The intercooler equipped version of the engine power up to maximum output of 145 hp (108 kW) [Aust. 130hp (96kW)] @ 3600 rpm and maximum torque of 35.0 kgf·m (343 N·m) @ 2000 rpm.

EFI : Electronic Fuel Injection

EFI delivers more power, torque and even better economy.

Fuel injection is a system for mixing fuel with air in an internal combustion engine. It has become the primary system used in automotive engines, having almost completely replaced carburetors in the late 1980s. A fuel injection system is designed and calibrated specifically for the type(s) of fuel it will handle: gasoline (petrol), Autogas (LPG, also known as propane), ethanol, methanol, methane (natural gas), hydrogen or diesel.

Fuel injection atomizes the fuel by forcibly pumping it through a small nozzle under high pressure. The fuel injector is only a nozzle and a valve: the power to inject the fuel comes from farther back in the fuel supply, from a pump or a pressure container. A fuel injector is nothing but an electronically controlled valve. It is supplied with pressurized fuel by the fuel pump in your car or 4x4, and it is capable of opening and closing many times per second. When the injector is energized, an electromagnet moves a plunger that opens the valve, allowing the pressurized fuel to squirt out through a tiny nozzle. The nozzle is designed to atomize the fuel -- to make as fine a mist as possible so that it can burn easily. The amount of fuel supplied to the engine is determined by the amount of time the fuel injector stays open. This is called the pulse width, and it is controlled by the ECU. Thus the name Electronic Fuel Injection.
